Title:
EASY OPEN ENVELOPE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1999/029582
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to two perforated lines running parallel on an envelope with a strip of material in most instances glued, fixed or welded to the underside for reinforcement between the two perforated lines with a tab at each end to aid in the EASY OPEN of envelopes of all types and sizes and including the large commercial systems. The EASY OPEN system is activated by lifting the tab and tearing the reinforced strip at 90 degrees along the perforated lines (the system is designed so that the tear strip can be activated from either end) which in turn removes a portion of the envelope (window) for the easy retrieval of the contents.

THE CLAIMS
1. DEFINING THE INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWED (1) Perforated line. Two parallel perforated lines allowing a strip (window) to be removed from an envelope, these perforations may be increased or decreased in severity according to the type of envelope, whether security is required and or thickness (weight) of material used to make the envelope. Width between perforated lines will be dictated by the size of window required and the manufactures envelope design. (2) Tear strip. The strip is position between the two parallel perforated lines forming a tear strip (window) on an envelope. This section can also show symbols or wording to be used for direction of pull or just show the opening tab. (3) Lifting tap. The tab is located at either end, (or at one end only if required) of the tear strip, for the grasping and lifting to assist easy opening of the envelope (window). This tab may also be formed in part with the underlining reinforcing strip. (4) Tear stip reinforcing. This reinforcing can be of any suitable medium fixed, glued, welded to the under side of the tear strip. This reinforcing can if required be rolled over and returned to the external face of the tear strip to form a stronger tab. (5) Position of"EASY OPEN SYSTEM" Edge of envelope. The easy open system can be fitted as part of the closing flap of an envelope or incorporated into any section the main body of envelope.
Description:
EASY OPEN ENVELOPE The invention relates to two perforated lines running parallel on a envelope with a strip of material in most instances glued, fixed or welded to the underside for reinforcement between the two perforated lines with a tab at each end to aid in the EASY OPEN of envelopes of all types and sizes and including the large commercial systems. This system allows for a window to be produce in the envelope.

The EASY OPEN system is activated by lifting the tab and tearing the reinforced strip at 90 degrees along the perforated lines (the system is designed so that the tear strip can be activated from either end) which in turn removes a portion of the envelope (window) for the easy retrieval of the contents.

The system is positioned on the sealing flap or any portion of a envelope, with a symbol or wording indication direction of pull for tab.

The distance between the perforated lines will varies according to type and weight of envelope system being used.

With the varying thickness (weight) of materials used to manufacture envelopes a layer of material in most instances to be fixed under the tear tab for reinforcement for the complete length (or portion) of the tear strip this will allows the tear strip (window) to be removed without destroying the envelope.

Envelopes that require security under this system, will require the severity of the perforation to be reduced and to compensate the weight of the reinforcing under the tab and tear section is increased.

In some envelope systems EASY OPEN SYSTEM may be best suited incorporated into the bottom portion of the envelope.
