Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an edge detection device, an edge detection method, and a program, whereby it is possible to improve the rate of detection of edges having only a low gradient in terms of image information in an image. An edge detection device according to the present invention is provided with: a first processing unit (42) which determines the direction of the pixel value gradient at a first pixel block by use of the pixel values of a plurality of pixels in a first local region including the first pixel block; a second processing unit (42) which determines the direction of the pixel value gradient at a second pixel block different from the first pixel block by use of the pixel values of a plurality pixels in a second local region including the second pixel block; and a third processing unit (43) which determines that the first pixel block is an edge if the direction of the pixel value gradient at the pixels in the first pixel block deviates from the direction of the pixel value gradient at the pixels in the second pixel block by an amount equal to or greater than a reference value.
