The present invention addresses the problem of providing an edge-induced illusion generation device, an edge-induced illusion generation method, an edge-induced illusion generation program, a printing medium, a recording medium, etc., that can be applied to a given image, is able to automatically generate an edge-induced illusion without requiring complicated tasks, and enables achieving contrast improvement by taking advantage of an edge-induced illusion. The present invention is characterized by generating an edge-induced illusion image by applying, to image data, a two-dimensional digital filter which is a non-oriented filter or an oriented coupled filer, and which is at the same time a filter capable of transmitting a band of relatively high frequencies or a high-frequency pass filter, or an orientation selective wavelet frame or an orientation selective filter bank that is an assembly made up of a non-oriented approximate filter and a plurality of oriented precision filters, so as to extract a band component of relatively high frequencies or a high frequency component and/or to apply color to an edge of the extracted band component or high frequency component.
