Abstract:
This EGR estimation method for an internal combustion engine 1 estimates the EGR rate in intake/exhaust gas systems 10, 20 of the internal combustion engine 1, including an intake gas system 10 and an exhaust gas system 20, the intake/exhaust gas systems 10, 20 of the internal combustion engine 1 being provided with an EGR device 40 including an EGR passage 41 and an EGR valve 43. The EGR estimation method for the internal combustion engine 1 includes, when fuel cut of the internal combustion engine 1 is started when the EGR valve 43 is fully closed, performing determination of a gas substitution state between exhaust gas inside the upstream-side EGR passage 41a and new gas, and estimating the EGR rate on the basis of the result of the determination.
