Abstract:
An elastase inhibiting polypeptide is disclosed, which comprises about a half of the carboxyl terminal side of a human polymorphonuclear leukocyte elastase inhibiting protein (SLIP) of the carboxy-end side and has the same elastase inhibiting activity as that of SLIP and an extremely lower serine protease inhibiting activity than the elastase inhibiting activity. Polypeptides with addition, deletion and/or substitution of one or more amino acids on the basis of the above mentioned polypeptide and having the above described biological activities are also disclosed. A process for efficiently preparing these and other polypeptides using corresponding fused proteins is also disclosed.
