Abstract:

[Problem] To Provide an electric assist device for a bicycle wherein a structure for detecting pedal pressing force is not complicated, the bicycle does not need to be reconstructed, and assist control corresponding to pedal pressing force is performed. [Solution] An electric assist device for a bicycle, the device comprising: an electric motor connected through a torque transmission system to a crank arm or a crankshaft or driven via the crank arm by pressing force from a pedal; an onboard battery, which is a power source for the electric motor; and a control device that controls the actions of the electric motor; wherein the electric assist device has a rotational angle sensor that senses a crank rotational angle position of the crankshaft and a current sensor that senses a motor current of the electric motor, and the control device has: a pressing force estimation/calculation unit that estimates the pressing force of the pedal from the difference between the motor current at a first crank rotational angle position and the motor current at a second crank rotational angle position, which is different from the first crank rotational angle position; and a motor drive control unit that controls a drive current of the electric motor in accordance with the pedal pressing force estimated by the pressing force estimation/calculation unit.
