Abstract:
An electric compressor equipped with: a compressor that rotates around a rotational axis, thereby compressing a fluid; an electric motor that drives the compressor so as to rotate around the rotational axis; and a control unit that has a first component and a second component, and that uses this first component and second component to control the supply of current when the electric motor is driving. The allowable current when the first component and the second component are exposed to the same temperature is set such that the allowable current of the second component is less than that of the first component. The second component is arranged at a location where the cooling capacity is greater than that of the first component, thereby setting the allowable power of the second component during rated usage to a greater value than the allowable power of the first component. This electric compressor also is equipped with a temperature sensor that detects the temperature of the first component, and a computation unit that outputs an alarm signal when the temperature detected by the temperature sensor and the current flowing in the first component satisfy a prescribed condition.
