Abstract:
Provided is an electric discharge machining electrode wire and a manufacturing method therefor, the electric discharge machining electrode wire having a zinc coating around the periphery of a core material, wherein variations in the concentration of Cu in the outermost surface layer are suppressed. In the electric discharge machining electrode wire (10), the periphery of a core material (1) formed from copper or copper alloy is coated with a coating layer (2) containing zinc, the coating layer (2) has an outermost layer (2B) which consists of an ε-phase that is an alloy of copper and zinc, and the outermost layer (2B) has a Cu concentration of 12 to 20 mass%, with the range of variations in the Cu concentration in the longitudinal direction of the electrode wire being within 5 mass%.
