Abstract:
An electric drive apparatus (20) is applied to a vehicle (10) equipped with a drive wheel (21), and causes the vehicle to travel by rotating the drive wheel about a rotation center axis that extends horizontally. The electric drive apparatus comprises: a drive unit (22) which is disposed underneath a base part (11) of the vehicle and which has a motor (30) and a transmission mechanism (50, 60) that is connected to the drive wheel and that transmits the rotative power of the motor to the drive wheel; and a steering mechanism (70) which is disposed underneath the base part and which has a steering center shaft (74) that extends in the vertical direction. The steering mechanism supports the drive unit so as to be rotatable around the steering center shaft with respect to the base part while maintaining the horizontal orientation of the rotation center axis of the drive wheel. The steering mechanism is configured such that the steering center shaft is positioned horizontally out of alignment with a ground-contact part of the drive wheel with respect to a travel road surface (GL).
