An electric glue gun (100), comprising: a housing (12); a motor (11) supported by the housing (12); an ejecting mechanism (14), which is supported by the housing (12) and connected to the motor (11), and is used for mounting a glue bottle (15) and extruding glue; a detection portion (66, 68) for detecting an overloading operation event of the electric glue gun (100); and a controller (61), which is connected to the motor (11) and configured to: determine whether an overloading operation event occurs in the electric glue gun (100) according to the detection result of the detection portion (66, 68); and after determining that an overloading operation event occurs in the electric glue gun (100) and the motor (11) stops driving, control the motor (11) to reverse, so that the ejecting mechanism (14) is retracted by a predetermined distance. Disclosed is a control method for said electric glue gun (100). The electric glue gun (100) is able to prevent, after stopping gluing, the glue from continuously flowing out of a nozzle, resulting in waste of the glue and nozzle contamination.
