Disclosed is an electric gripping device wherein gripping force reliably continues to be exerted on a workpiece even if energization of an electric motor is stopped, and wherein the workpiece reliably continues to be gripped in a predetermined attitude , with energy conservation achieved. The electric gripping device is provided with a driven member (14) which is given translational motion by an electric motor (4), a plurality of movable claws (3, 8) which open and close so as to grip the workpiece, a link mechanism (51) which causes the movable claws (3, 8) to undergo displacement in such a way as to be interlocked with the displacement of the driven member (14), and a locking mechanism (130) which limit the displacement of the driven member (14) when energization of the motor (4) is at a stop. The link mechanism (51) comprises one or more links. Furthermore, at least one of said links consists of an elastic body (19). This elastic body (19) is formed in such a way that when the movable claws (3, 8) press the workpiece, the elastic body (19) deforms due to the resulting reaction force, leading to elastic force being accumulated.
