Abstract:
An electric heater for a liquid heating vessel has a sump 10 which undergoes a rapid rise in temperature when water in the bulk of the vessel begins to boil and therefore causes convection in the sump. Various ways of thermally isolating the sump 10 from the heating element 6 are disclosed including locating the sump between the cold tails 8 the heater, outside the footprint of a heat distribution plate 4 or in a cut-out 4a in the heat distribution plate. The temperature rise may be sensed by a standard steam-switch component.
