Provided is an electric linear motion actuator that achieves space saving and cost reduction and enables improved redundancy. This electric linear motion actuator (1) has a linear motion mechanism (3) and an electric motor (2) that are coaxially disposed side by side on the axis of a rotary input/output shaft (5) of the linear motion mechanism (3), wherein the electric motor (2) is provided with a stator (7) and a rotor (8) which are disposed in such a manner that magnetic poles thereof for generating interlinkage magnetic fluxes contributing to a torque are oriented in parallel to the rotation axis of the motor. The rotor (8) has a torque generating surface at both end faces thereof in the axial direction. The stator (7) has first and second excitation mechanisms (7A), (7B) that are respectively disposed on both sides of the rotor (8) in the axial direction, wherein: the first and second excitation mechanisms (7A), (7B) respectively have first-system and second-system coil groups (11A), (11B) which are independent of each other; and there is also provided a power supply system (50) that supplies power independently to the first-system and second-system coil groups (11A), (11B).
