Abstract:

Provided is an electric power steering apparatus with a structure such that vibrations or noise generated during operation can be stably decreased by suppressing the play in an output shaft (6a) of an electric motor (5) stably for a long period. A front end portion of the output shaft (6a) is coupled to a proximal end portion of a worm (7) in such a manner as to allow transmission of torque and relative axial displacement. A coupling portion between the output shaft (6a) and the worm (7) includes an elastic member (31) having an elasticity causing the output shaft (6a) and the worm (7) to be separated from each other. By means of the elasticity of the elastic member (31), a pair of ball bearings (14a, 14b) rotatably supporting the output shaft (6a) with respect to a motor case (13) is subjected to a preload with a contact angle of the tandem duplex type.
