Abstract:
In order to enable a steering wheel to be easily operated both during normal times and when an abnormality has occurred, this electric power steering device is provided with an electric motor 2 having two wound coils, and a control unit 1 having two control systems for respectively supplying control signals to the wound coils of the electric motor 2. The device is configured such that when an abnormality has occurred in one wound coil of the electric motor 2 or in one system in the control unit 1, the supply current to the wound coil where the abnormality has occurred is cut to zero, and the electric motor 2 is driven by supplying the prescribed supply current needed during regular times to the other wound coil. The device is also configured such that during normal drive times when no abnormalities have occurred, the electric motor 2 is driven while the supply current is shared between the two wound coils.
