Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to sustain the usefulness and reduce the operating cost of a battery energy storage system (BESS) using a thermal energy storage device capable of storing cold energy. A BESS 2 according to the present invention which provides an electric power stabilizing service to a power grid 9 is provided with: a battery 4 capable of being charged and discharged; a PCS 5 which mutually converts electric power input and output between the battery 4 and the power grid 9; an air conditioning system 6 which regulates the temperature of the battery 4; and an energy management device 7 which controls the operation of the BESS 2. The air conditioning system 6 can be thermally linked to a TESS 3 capable of storing cold energy. On the basis of the state of charge of the battery 4 and the state of cold energy storage of the TESS 3, the energy management device 7 controls the operation of the air conditioning system 6 and the TESS 3, and controls charging and discharging of the battery 4.
