Title:
ELECTRIC SYNCHRONOUS MACHINE COMPRISING A TOROIDAL WINDING
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002089291
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The principle design of electrical machines with a winding construction based on pole shoes has not changed in decades. The machines have, depending on whether they operate as a generator or motor, a limited efficiency or a limited torque and a limited power to mass ratio. The invention provides a design in which the stator and/or rotor consist(s) of a toroidal core (1) made of a magnetically conductive material having, between sections acting as magnetic poles (4), uniformly distributed recesses (2) or areas (7) that, in a radial direction, project or recede in a meandering manner. Winding sections (3) of at least one winding, which has a winding axis situated in the peripheral direction of the stator or rotor, are wound in said recesses or areas. The distances between the oppositely poled permanent magnets (5) or electrically excited poles, which generate the exciting field, essentially correspond to the size of the pole gaps in the stator or rotor. The machine has a significantly improved power to mass ratio.
