Title:
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1997018125
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
In an electric vehicle, such as a step-through scooter, a battery compartment is arranged within the chassis (Fig 3), the batteries mounted on trays which extend between parallel steel tubes of the chassis, with some batteries located beneath the footplate (Fig 2). Various electric motor arrangements may replace an internal combustion engine (Fig 4), including direct drive systems (Fig 5) whereby each wheel may form a rotor with each suspension element a stator. Various inputs (82, Fig 8), including the sensed relative positions between electromagnets and permanent magnets, may be received by an electronic controller (80) which controls the motor timing and other features to maximise efficiency, including quick mains charging of batteries (86), regenerative braking (84C) and trickle charging from a solar panel (88B). There may be a clutch (60-68, Fig 6) in the drive chain.
