Abstract:
A device which is compact, comprising a speed reduction mechanism, an electric motor, and a transmission mechanism which are arranged side by side along an axle. A transmission mechanism (3), a speed reduction mechanism (16), and a driving motor (15) are disposed within a rear hub (1) so as to lie side by side in the direction of the axis of an axle (5). The transmission mechanism (3) transmits a pedaling force to a driving wheel (45) through a sprocket (4). The speed reduction mechanism (16) transmits to the driving wheel (45) a driving force transmitted from the driving motor (15). The transmission mechanism (3) is provided with a transmission's sun gear (3a), transmission's planetary gears (3b), and a transmission's planetary carrier (3c). The transmission mechanism (3) is also provided with a transmission control mechanism (10) for causing the transmission to be shifted between a position at which the transmission's sun gear (3a) can rotate about the axle (5) by the driving force from the sprocket (4) and a position at which the transmission's sun gear (3a) cannot rotate. The speed reduction mechanism (16) is provided with a speed reducer's sun gear (16a) and speed reducer's planetary gears (16b). The speed reducer's planetary gears (16b) are held by the transmission's planetary carrier (3c). A clutch (30) is provided between a motor housing (15b) and a speed reducer's outer ring gear (16d) which meshes with the speed reducer's planetary gears (16b).
