Abstract:
Disclosed are an electro-mechanical brake system and a method for operating same. The present embodiment may provide an electro-mechanical brake system and a method for operating same, wherein the electro-mechanical brake system comprises: a pair of pad plates disposed at both sides of a disk rotating together with a vehicle wheel; a piston for tightly attaching or detaching the pad plates to or from the disk; a first motor and a second motor, each of which operates independently and provides power to the piston; a first gear for reducing and transferring the power of the first motor; a second gear which changes the power of the second motor into a translational motion, comes into contact with the piston to press the piston and release the pressing, and includes a guide part formed to slope at a portion thereof that is to be brought into contact with the piston; and a connection part which connects the first gear to the second gear such that the first and second gears rotate together, and slidably fastens the second gear to the first gear.
