Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the invention, the electro-optical device comprises a panel, a seal, a liquid crystal layer, a light source, and a first reflective layer. The panel comprises a first transparent base material, a second transparent base material facing the first transparent base material, an electro-optical region, and a peripheral region in the periphery of the electro-optical region. In a planar view, the seal is provided in the peripheral region and adheres the first transparent base material to the second transparent base material. The liquid crystal layer contains a polymeric liquid crystal composition and is sealed by the seal between the first transparent base material and the second transparent base material. The light source faces the side surface of the second transparent base material or the first transparent base material. The first reflective layer is between the first transparent base material and the second transparent base material. In addition, in a planar view, the panel has a first edge, and the first reflective layer overlaps with a portion of the seal following the first edge.
