Abstract:
The present invention curbs reduction in cell performance due to mutual diffusion of elements or a difference in expansion amount in a reduction atmosphere between a solid electrolyte layer and a fuel electrode. This electrochemical cell is provided with: a solid electrolyte layer comprising ZrO2 containing a first rare earth element; an air electrode disposed on one side of the solid electrolyte layer; and a fuel electrode disposed on the other side of the solid electrolyte layer. The fuel electrode comprises: CeO2 containing a second rare earth element; and Ni or a Ni-containing alloy. The electrochemical cell is further provided with an intermediate layer disposed between the solid electrolyte layer and the fuel electrode. The intermediate layer comprises a solid solution that contains Zr, Ce, the first rare earth element, and the second rare earth element.
