Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a three-terminal switch (electrochemical transistor) which implements a sharp on/off operation. A source electrode and a drain electrode are disposed side by side with an insulator therebetween, and an ion diffusion member produced from Ta2O5 or the like is disposed thereon. A gate electrode capable of supplying metal ions such as copper ions is disposed on the surface on the reverse side of the ion diffusion member. By applying voltage to the gate electrode, the metal ions emitted from the gate electrode are reversibly deposited as metal on both the source and drain electrodes and the insulator in the neighborhood thereof, thereby controlling the continuity/non-continuity between the source electrode and the drain electrode.
