Abstract:
Provided is an electrode structure of an apparatus that performs, by means of electric heating, partial tempering of a fastening section of a member to be fastened by means of a self-piercing rivet so that a crack is not formed as a result of a distal end of a leg of the self-piercing rivet entering the member to be fastened, which is hard and has low ductility. A first electrode assembly (30a) of an electrode structure comprises: a first electrode member (31a) having a first electrode base (32a) and a first electrode contact section (33a) that extends upward from one of end sections of the first electrode base; and a first insulating tip (35a) having a first insulating-tip contact section (36a) that extends upward from the other end section of the first electrode base. A second electrode assembly (30b) is attached in a vertically inverted and laterally inverted manner with respect to the first electrode assembly. A second insulating-tip contact section (36b) and a second electrode contact section (33b) extend downward. A section of a member (52) to be fastened is sandwiched between the first electrode contact section and the second insulating-tip contact section, and another section of the member to be fastened is sandwiched between the first insulating-tip contact section and the second electrode contact section. A current is supplied between the first electrode contact section and the second electrode contact section via the member to be fastened, thus performing tempering of a joining section of the member to be fastened.
