Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is: to balance conductivity and discharge properties and to improve machining speed in an electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining which is obtained by plating a steel wire with a copper-zinc alloy; and to suppress detachment and cracking of the plating when drawing the electrode wire. The electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining is configured so as to comprise a steel wire (11) serving as a core wire, and a plating layer (12) for covering the steel wire and comprising a copper-zinc alloy, wherein the average zinc concentration in the plating layer is 60-75 mass%, the conductivity is 10-20% IACS, and the wire diameter is 30-200μm.
