Abstract:
Provided is an electrode wire for electrical discharge machining which, even when discharge energy is increased, can be prevented from decreasing in tensile strength and can attain an improvement in the precision of work cutting and with which the rate of machining can be heightened.
The electrode wire for electrical discharge machining is characterized by being obtained by coating the periphery of a stainless-steel wire as a core wire with nickel (Ni) and then with copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) in this order. The electrode wire is preferably characterized by the following. The nickel (Ni) has a thickness of 0.01-2.0 µm, and the electrode wire has a tensile strength at ordinary temperature of 1,900-3,200 N/mm2 and has a tensile strength at 400ºC which is at least 70% of the ordinary-temperature tensile strength. The electrode wire, after having undergone wiredrawing, has a cross-section outer diameter (ф) of 0.03-0.1 mm. The electrode wire has undergone heat treatment for alloying the copper (Cu) and the zinc (Zn) and has undergone straightening by hot drawing.
