An electrofusion clamp (10) including; a) a first clamp means (12) including a first clamp member (22) and a second clamp member (24) wherein the first clamp member is moveable with respect to the second clamp member such that the first clamp means is moveable from a first open or undamped position to a second closed or clamped position; and b) a means (28,30,32,34) for detecting if the first clamp means is in the open position or the closed position.
