This electrolysis electrode includes: an electrode substrate having a first surface, a second surface opposite of the first surface, and multiple through-holes passing from the first surface to the second surface; multiple first recesses opening in the first surface; multiple second recesses opening on the second surface and having a wider opening area than the first recesses; and a catalyst layer provided on the first surface. At least some of the through-holes allow communication between the first recesses and the second recesses, there are more first recesses than second recesses, and the multiple through-holes include at least first through-holes, second through-holes, which are adjacent to a first through-hole at a first, smallest distance, and third through-holes, which are adjacent to a first through-hole at a second distance greater than the first distance. A third distance between the second through-hole and third through-hole is greater than the second distance. In the catalyst layer, a first thickness in a first region between a first through-hole and a second through-hole is greater than a second thickness in a second region between a first through-hole and a third through-hole.
