Title:
ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE, AND MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/111625
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
This invention provides an electrolyte membrane which, in the operation of a fuel cell, can avoid the formation of a large stress within the membrane by the expansion of the electrolyte membrane due to hydration and can produce a high-performance and durable membrane electrode assembly. In the production of the electrolyte membrane, a fluorine-type electrolyte resin membrane (35) integrated with a porous reinforcing film (32) is hydrolyzed to impart ion conductivity. Hydration in the hydrolysis can provide a reinforcing film-integrated electrolyte resin membrane (35A) which has been expanded in a state that undergoes restriction by the porous reinforcing film (32). The outer periphery of the expanded reinforcing film-integrated electrolyte resin membrane (35A) is fixed, for example, by a clamp (20) and, in this state, is dried to produce a water-free electrolyte membrane.
