Abstract:
This electrolytic cell has at least one electrolysis electrode and a side wall portion. The electrolysis electrode constitutes a first inner side surface of the electrolytic cell, and the side wall portion constitutes a second inner side surface of the electrolytic cell, said second inner side surface facing the first inner side surface. At an upper portion of the electrolytic cell, the side wall portion has a first step portion that makes the gap between the first and second inner side surfaces wider than that on the bottom side. The first step portion is provided so that when an electrolyte is contained in the electrolytic cell and electrolyzed and gas bubbles are produced from the first inner side surface, the gas bubbles are convected in the electrolyte between the electrolyte surface and the first step portion by the buoyancy of the gas bubbles.
