Abstract:
An electromagnetic clutch and a method of manufacturing the clutch. The electromagnetic clutch has a driven pulley and a friction plate capable of being engaged under pressure with the pulley.Power is transmitted from the pulley side to the friction plate side by friction generated when a friction surface of the friction plate is engaged under pressure with a friction surface of the pulley. A cushioning material is embedded in at least either the pulley or the friction plate. The cushioning material reduces the engagement speed of the friction plate, with a cushioning surface of the cushioning material projecting from the friction surface of the at least either of the two members. In the electromagnetic clutch and method of manufacturing the clutch, the occurrence of noise generated when the friction plate is pressed against the pulley can be reliably suppressed.
