Provided is an electromagnetic switch, wherein a guiding face for guiding a movable core into a magnetizing coil is not necessary, and suction force can be outputted efficiently with a small stroke. The electromagnetic switch is provided with: a contact apparatus (1) further comprising a pair of rigid contact pieces (4a, 4b) anchored within an arc-extinguishing chamber container (3) with a prescribed space maintained therebetween, and a movable contact piece (5) that is arranged so as to be capable of coming in contact or separating from the pair of rigid contact pieces; and an electromagnet apparatus (2) that drives the movable contact piece (5). The electromagnet apparatus (2) comprises a cylindrical magnetizing coil (11), a rigid core (12) that passes through the center of the magnetizing coil (11), a magnetic yoke (13) that covers the outer side of the magnetizing coil (11), and a movable core (14) that faces the rigid core (12) and the magnetic yoke (13). Pole-contact faces of the rigid core (12) and the magnetic yoke (13) were formed to be more at the contact apparatus side than the magnetizing coil (11).
