Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an electromagnetic wave enhancing element that is uniformly formed on a substrate, provides electric field enhancement without depending on periodicity, and enables quantitative evaluation. An electromagnetic wave enhancing element 10 is an element having a projection 11, and is constituted mainly of a first conductor layer 1, a dielectric layer 2, and a second conductor layer 3. In the electromagnetic wave enhancing element 10, a waveguide is formed on the dielectric layer 2 at a portion sandwiched between the first conductor layer 1 and the second conductor layer 3. When an electromagnetic wave having a predetermined wavelength λ enters this waveguide, a standing wave of the electromagnetic wave is generated due to the length L of the waveguide, and a strong electric field can be concentrated in extremely narrow regions at both ends of the waveguide. A SERS signal can be extracted using this electric field.
