Abstract:
Disclosed are an electromechanical brake and an operation method therefor. An electromechanical brake according to the embodiment comprises: a piston capable of moving forward or backward so as to press a brake pad; a power converting unit which receives a driving force from an actuator to convert a rotary motion into a linear motion, and provides the linear motion to a piston; and a position adjustment part for adjusting the relative position of the piston with respect to the power converting unit. The power converting unit includes: a spindle which receives the driving force from the actuator and rotates; and a nut which is connected to the spindle and moves the piston forward or backward by being moved forward or rearward inside the piston by the rotation of the spindle in a first direction or a second direction. The position adjustment part includes: an adjustment screw provided on the outside of the nut and rotating together with the nut; first screw threads formed on the outer circumferential surface of the adjustment screw; second screw threads formed on the inner circumferential surface of the piston and engaging with the first screw threads; and an adjuster provided between the spindle and the nut, wherein when the rotation amount of the spindle exceeds a preset rotation amount, the adjuster contracts or expands to the original shape to rotate the nut and the adjustment screw in the first direction or the second direction, thereby moving the relative position of the piston forward or rearward.
