Abstract:
A driving method for driving an electron emission device to be used in a display, an imaging device or a plane light source and to be able to suppress the aging. The driving method drives the electron emission device having a plurality of sealed electron emission elements, each of which includes an electron supply layer made of silicon, a mixture mainly composed of silicon or a chemical compound of silicon, an insulating layer formed over the electron supply layer, and a metallic thin film electrode formed over the insulating layer. The driving method comprises the driving step of supplying an electric power between the electron supply layer and the metallic thin film electrode to emit electrons from the electron emission elements, and the reactivating step of applying, after the driving step, such a reactivating voltage equal to or higher than an applied voltage value as will cause a discontinuity in the differentiated value, with respect to the applied voltage, of the element current flowing between the electron supply layer and the metallic thin film electrode.
