Abstract:

An electronic ballast fixed to the outside of an illuminating device. The illuminating device comprises a lamp housing having front and back openings, a front lens closing the front opening, a discharge lamp contained in the housing, and a reflector for reflecting light of the lamp toward the lens. The ballast comprises a ballast housing closing the back opening and connected with the frame ground through at least one of the lamp housing and the reflector, a lamp socket and an igniter contained in the front section of the ballast housing, and a power converter contained in the ballast housing. Output of the converter is connected with the socket which is connected directly with the lamp and the igniter is connected between them. A plurality of heat generating components of the converter are contained in the back section of the ballast housing and function as a heat dissipator.
