Abstract:
The invention relates to an electronic ballast for operating a gas discharge lamp, including (i) a current rectifier circuit; (ii) a power factor correction (PFC) network including an electrolytic capacitor which charges via a circuit formed by an inductor, diode and capacitor; and (ii) a commutated inverter circuit that converts the rectified direct current voltage to a high-frequency alternating current voltage. The electronic circuit comprises a commutator that commutates the above-mentioned electronic elements such that the circuit (PFC) permanently consumes energy from the network while the electrolytic capacitor remains connected to the voltage of the rectifier bridge, via the inductor and the diode, such that the inductor does not contain any stored energy. The inverter is supplied with a constant noiseless voltage from the storage capacitor, enabling the inverter to adequately supply the light charge.
