Abstract:
The disclosed electronic compass computes the central axis (7) of a circle (70) on which a first detected value (P1), a second detected value (P2), and a third detected value (P3) detected by a three-axis magnetometer lie. Said electronic compass then computes the center (O2) of the direction sphere (6) as the point where the aforementioned central axis (7) intersects a perpendicular bisecting plane (8) that contains the midpoint (80) of and is perpendicular to a straight line (81) that connects either the first detected value (P1), the second detected value (P2), or the third detected value (P3) to a fourth detected value (P4) that lies outside the plane containing the abovementioned circle (70). This makes it possible to correct the center (O2) of the direction sphere (6) and compute an accurate direction.
