An electronic control system 1 for a vehicle, wherein a center device 3 comprises: an authorization information reception unit 8a that receives the fact that a user has authorized a program update using a first device 25-27 not owned by the user, and receives as first authorization information the authorization information of the user; an authorization information management unit 8b that associates the first authorization information with the vehicle information of the user, stores the first authorization information in an authorization information storage unit 8c, and manages the first authorization information; and an authorization information transmission unit 8g that transmits the first authorization information to the vehicle of the user. A master device 11 for a vehicle comprises: an authorization information reception unit 32a that receives the first authorization information; and a program overwrite unit 32b that overwrites a program when the first authorization information is received.
