An electronic device (101) according to one embodiment comprises communication circuits (190, 302) and at least one processor (120, 304) operatively connected to the communication circuits. The electronic device receives, through the communication circuits, from first external electronic devices (102, 210), a first signal including information related to an event that has occurred in the first external electronic devices. The electronic device uses a first application for performing functions related to the first external electronic device so as confirm whether conditions set to perform a function of at least one second external electronic device (220) corresponding to the event are satisfied. The electronic device uses the first application so as to confirm, on the basis of the confirmation that the conditions are satisfied, the function of the at least one second external electronic device corresponding to the event. The electronic device uses a second application for controlling the at least one second external electronic device so as to control the at least one second external electronic device so that the at least one second external electronic device performs the confirmed function. Other embodiments are possible.
