Abstract:

An electronic device includes a power supply unit for supplying power to a load. The power supply unit comprises: a converter which includes a switching element operating in a switch mode, an inductor, and an output capacitor, and provides an output voltage obtained by changing the magnitude of an input voltage; a protection switching element which is provided between the inductor and the output capacitor, and turns on or off to selectively connect the inductor and the output capacitor; and a protection circuit unit providing a control voltage that turns on the protection switching element in response to the voltage between the inductor and the protection switching element being less than or equal to a threshold value indicating overvoltage, and turns off the protection switching element in response to the voltage between the inductor and the protection switching element exceeding the threshold value. The control voltage is varied according to changes in the input voltage or output voltage, and is provided to have a value corresponding to a threshold voltage for turning the protection switching element on or off.
