The invention relates to a method enabling a highly efficient exchange of electronic data and documents between a sender and a plurality of receivers. The invention also relates to a method for the electronic transmission of data of at least one document from a sender to a receiver, especially for the transmission of invoices. According to said method, a) the data is provided with an electronic signature before it is sent by the sender, b) a validity check is carried out on the electronic signature before the data can be released for transmission to the receiver, said check verifying at least the certificate of the electronic signature, and c) the data together with the electronic signature and a test protocol for verifying the signature, are released for transmission to the receiver.
