Abstract:
This invention relates to a portable electronic scale used for measuring the weights carried with any type of transportation means. The electronic scale in its basic form involves a pressure sensor unit which measures the values of air pressure caused by the weights, which occur on the head and trailer part of the vehicle, on the bellow of the vehicle, and is characterized by involving at least one microcontroller unit which calculates the values measured using special factors for each vehicle, converts the values calculated to the weight units and transfers these values to the screen, keeps these values in its memory, provides print out of this information and transfer this information to other devices or terminals and is responsible for the control of other units.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. An electronic scale (1) which will be used for measuring weightscarried in any type of transportation vehicles, involves a pressure sensor unit (2) which measures the values of air pressure caused by the weights, which occur on the head and trailer part of the vehicle, on the bellow of the vehicle, and is characterized by involving at least one microcontroller unit (3) which calculates the values measured using special factors for each vehicle, converts the values calculated to the weight units and transfers these values to the screen and is responsible from the control of other units.

2. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 1 characterized by a measurement unit (4) which receives (filters and amplifies) analog signs received from sensors or which receives the digital signs;

3. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 2 characterized by a screen units (5) wherein the measurement results and device information are shown.

4. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 3 characterized by a keyboard unit (6) which enables taking the measures and controlling the scale and from which the printing process is started

5. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 4 characterized by an internal printer units (7) wherein the instantaneous or recorded measurement results and device specific information could be printed.

6. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 5 characterized by an internal memory unit (8) wherein the device parameters and retrospective measurements are kept. 7. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 6 characterized by a warning unit (9) used for warning the user according to the result of the process and / or programmed alarms.

8. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 7 characterized by a real time hour unit (10) which provides hour and date information of measurements.

9. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 8 characterized by an external interface and communication unit (11) which establishes connection with a computer interface and / or an external device or terminal and which provides transfer of measurement results to an external device and / or launching of measurement.

10. An electronic scale according to claim 9 characterized by a power unit (12) which provides the direct current to be used in the device and the voltage and current required to the sensors

11. An electronic scale (1 ) according to claim 10 characterized by a computer interface (13) which is used for reading or writing the parameters of the device and showing the information recorded.

12. An electronic scale (1) according to claim 11 characterized by operating between one or several pressure intervals. 13. An eiectronic scale (1) according to any of the previous claims which is able to provide for calibration and keep in its memory the calibration info (factors) of several vehicles and thus could be used for several vehicles.

14. An electronic scale according to any of the foregoing claims characterized by external terminals (1 ) which will fulfill the function of transferring the measurement info of the device or recording the measurement results of the device, and which will provide for remote controlling of the device

Description:
ELECTRONIC VEHICLE SCALE

Technical Field This invention relates to a portable electronic scale used for measuring the weights carried with any type of transportation means.

Prior Art

In the embodiments known in the art, various devices are developed to be used for measuring the weights in vehicles. One of these embodiments has been explained in Chinese patent application numbered CN1069700. In the application in question, a portable electronic weight device, which has a sensor on a body and which involves a circuit for measuring and a digital screen, is defined. Due to the nature of the device which is portable; vehicles and other heavy weights could be measured in a timely manner.

In the Chinese utility model application numbered CN 2300893, a portable electronic scale for railway vehicles is explained. The device in question is connected to the rails through clamps, performs weight measurement through the existing sensors and transfers the data to the computer system. Besides, the device has memory and printer on it. By this means, it is able to sent the information on whether the device is overloaded even when it is moving.

However, in the applications mentioned above, the rates of error in relation to weight measurements are high, and is specialized on a single vehicle. This decreases the utilization capacity of the devices. Besides, due to difficulties of calibration, the reliability of the device is currently a matter of discussion. Brief description of the invention

The aim of this invention is to obtain a portable electronic scale which enables measurement with a sensitivity having an error rate between 0 % to 0.05% at any required time.

Another aim of this invention is to obtain a portable electronic scale which could be easily calibrated and thus used for many vehicles.

Another aim of this invention is to obtain a portable electronic scale which enables continuous measurement.

Detailed description of the invention

The electronic scale constructed in order to reach to the aim of this invention is indicated in the attached figure, wherein;

1 . External terminal

The electronic scale (1) is portable in its basic form and involves a pressure sensor unit (2) which measures the values of air pressure caused by the weights, which occur on the head and trailer part of the vehicle, on the bellow of the device, and is characterized by involving at least one microcontroller unit (3) which calculates the values measured using special factors for each vehicle, converts the values calculated to the weight units and transfers these values to the screen and is responsible from the control of other units.

Also following are included in the main block, located on the scale (1) which is the subject of the invention, in order to operate the system:

Measurement unit (4) which receives the analogue signs received from sensors

(which filters and amplifies) or receives the digital signs

- A screen unit (5) wherein the measurement results and vehicle information is indicated; ~ .

- A keyboard unit (6)which enables taking the measurements and controlling the scale and through which the printing process is started,

- An internal printer unit (?) through which instantaneous or recorded measurements results and information specific to the scale could be printed out;

- An internal memory unit (8) wherein the device parameters and retrospective measurements are kept

- A warning unit (9) which is used for warning the users according to the result of process and / or programmed alarms

Real time hour unit (10) which provides hour and date information of measurements,

- An external interface and communication unit (11) which establishes connection with a computer interface and / or an external device or terminal and which provides transfer of measurement results to an external device and / or launching of measurement. - A power unit (12) which creates fixed direct current to be used in device and which provides required voltage and current to the sensors

- A computer interface (13) used for reading or writing device parameter and showing the information recorded.

In embodiments of the scale (1) which is the subject of the invention, sensors that operate within two separate pressure intervals could be used in order to remove pressure difference problems between head and trailer that could arise from difference of producer firms, and sensor ports used according to these differences could be programmed. The scale (1) has a computer interface (13). The user may make the adjustments of the device with this interface and read the existing records.

In another embodiment of the scale (1) in question, external terminals (14) which enables transfer of measurement information of the device or which will perform the function of recording the measurement results of the device and will enable remote controlling of the device, could be used.

The scale (1) could transfer the weight information through a serial interface it has and could be integrated with other devices. Calibration process could be performed on several vehicles with the scale (1), and the vehicle could keep in its memory the calibration information (factors) of several vehicles. Thus the scale (1) in question could be used for several vehicles. Measurement parameters specific to the scale could be measured with special calibration and the rate of accuracy is 99,5 %. The user may transfer the weight values calculated to the printer on the scale (1) and record the measurement results. The memory period of the device could be adjusted for 10 years and more and the average number of records could be adjusted to be 8 records per day. Records for the last 5 years as minimum could be kept in a permanent memory in the scale (1) such that there shall be 4 records per day on average. The vehicle should stand on a smooth ground when measurement is performed with electronic scale (1). It is possible to perform measurement on slope areas, however, the error rate increases as the slope increases. The brakes of the vehicle should be disengaged and the device should be positioned so as to distributed the load to the surface at an equal rate. Balanced load distribution is an important parameter for the accuracy rate. When optimum measurement conditions are fulfilled, the error rate ranges between 0 % to 0.05 %. The devices could be calibrated with the device in question (1) taking into account the brand, model and production error tolerances and the wear tolerances that occur as a result of use, and thus the scale is specialized for each vehicle it will be attached to.

Calibration is a process which is performed for only once in order to calculate the measurement parameters after the scale (1) is mounted to the vehicle. By this means, the negative impacts that could be caused on the geometrical structure of the device, load distribution or on the measurement accuracy of errors in the system are minimized and accuracy is increased. Calibration is a process wherein measurement is performed with several different evenly distributed test loads and deriving the most accurate measurement values as a result of comparison, of measurement results. In order to perform weight calculations with the scale (1) which is the subject of invention, weight factors calculated specifically to each device are required. These factors are calculated during calibration by using the data read from the sensor unit (2). In order to calculate these factors, methods such as averaging and iteratively optimizing the measurement values received, are used. This is open to any type of calculation method. Whereas the device could perform these calculations on its own, calculations may be made through a computer software and recorded in the device. Values required to be read from the sensors (2) are the values which are measured when the device is empty and which could be measured with several fixed loads. From these values, the most suitable measurement factors values for the device are obtained using the methods in question.
