Abstract:
Provided is an electrostatic motor that has a rotor capable of being started up stably and rotated in a forward direction and is suitable for reduction in size. The electrostatic motor has: a rotor rotatable about a rotational axis; a plurality of charged portions formed radially about the rotational axis on the upper and lower surfaces of the rotor; first and second stators disposed so as to sandwich the rotor; and first and second pluralities of sets of fixed electrodes each formed radially about the rotational axis on the surfaces of the first and second stators facing the rotor and energized selectively in accordance with a drive pulse, thereby causing the rotor to rotate by the electrostatic force generated between the plurality of charged portions and the first and second pluralities of sets of fixed electrodes. An average number of sets of fixed electrodes simultaneously energized among the first and second pluralities of sets of fixed electrodes within one cycle of the drive pulse is equal to an average number of sets of the first plurality of sets of fixed electrodes and the second plurality of sets of fixed electrodes.
