Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] To provide an electrostatic separation method and an electrostatic separator that, in the case where the unburned fuel concentration of coal ash produced from a boiler in a coal burning thermal power plant is as high as 15 to 30%, the ash can be stably separated (separation into high level of unburned fuel ash and low level of unburned fuel ash)without generating any spark, and the high level of unburned fuel ash can be reutilized as a fuel while the low level of unburned fuel ash can be reutilized as an auxiliary material, for example, for concrete. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A method for electrostatically separating unburned carbon ash contained in coal ash by electrostatic force, characterized by comprising providing a substantially flat lower electrode and an upper electrode having a high-permittivity resin part provided above the lower electrode, generating a DC electric field between the lower electrode and the upper electrode in such a state that either the upper electrode or the lower electrode is used as a plus electrode and the other electrode is used as a minus electrode, thereby forming a separation zone utilizing electrostatic force, and separating the unburned carbon ash in the coal ash supplied into the separation zone, and an electrostatic separator.
