Abstract:
An elevator apparatus, wherein a car and a balance weight are suspended from lifting ropes in a hoistway. A drive rope is wrapped around the drive sheave of a drive device. The drive rope is connected to the balance weight. Also, a tension is given to the drive rope by a tension generating device. The drive force of the drive device is transmitted to the balance weight through the drive rope to lift the balance weight so as to lift the car.
