Abstract:
An elevator apparatus where a drive device is horizontally placed at the upper part in an elevator hoistway. The drive device has a drive device body and a drive sheave rotated about a vertically extending rotation axis by the drive device body. A car hanging pulley is attached to an elevator car, and a first and second counterbalance weight rope connection sections are arranged on a counterbalance weight. At the upper part in the hoistway are arranged a first and second car side pulleys and first and second counterbalance weight side pulleys. The car and the counterbalance weight are hanged in the hoistway by a main rope having first and second rope ends that are connected to the first and second counterbalance weight connection sections, respectively. The main rope is passed over from the first rope end through the first counterbalance weight side pulley, the drive sheave, the first car side pulley, the car hanging pulley, the second car side pulley, and the second counterbalance weight side pulley, in that order, to reach the second rope end.
