Disclosed is an elevator speed limiter. A rope wheel (2) is rotatably fixed inside a box body (1), the rope wheel (2) is fixed inside the box body (1) by a rotation centre shaft (21), a ratchet wheel (3) is fixed on the rotation centre shaft (21), the ratchet wheel (3) rotates coaxially with the rope wheel (2), a pawl shaft (4) is provided inside the box body (1) above the ratchet wheel (3), an oscillating rod (5) is rotatably fixed on the pawl shaft (4), a rotation wheel (51) is provided on an end of the oscillating rod (5), a pawl (52) is provided in the middle of the oscillating rod (5), the ratchet wheel (3) comprises a cam (31) and multiple ratchets (32) provided on a back face of the cam (31), and the surface of the rotation wheel (51) is in contact with the surface of the cam (31). When the elevator stalls, the oscillation amplitude of the rotation wheel (51) increases under the action of the cam (31), then the pawl (52) is driven to increase the oscillation amplitude and come into contact with the ratchets (32) on the back face of the cam (31), and the pawl (52) is clamped with the ratchets (32). The elevator speed limiter can be applied to an elevator without a machine room and can improve the reliability of elevator braking.
