Provided is an elevator system such that even in the event of a failure in a car position detection device it is possible to determine the presence or absence of a car in a door zone, and then determine whether opening/closing of the door of the car is possible. The elevator system (100) has: a plate (11) to be detected which is provided in a shaft (4); a car position detection device (10) which is provided on a car (1) so as to detect the plate (11) to be detected; car travel distance measurement devices (7, 15) which measure the travel distance of the car; and a control device (20) which controls the car position detection device and the car travel distance measurement devices. The control device has: a door zone detection unit (12) that detects a door zone, which is the region where the door of the car can be opened/closed, using the car position detection device; and a car position calculation unit (16) that calculates the position of the car using the car travel distance measurement devices. If it is detected that the car position detection device is faulty, the presence or absence of the car in the door zone is determined on the basis of the car position calculated by the car position calculation unit.
