An elevator where not only the gaps between a car room and the car-room doors can be closed reliably but also the car-room doors can be opened and closed smoothly. A bar-shaped threshold-side seal member (20) that is in close contact with a threshold (11) and extends in directions where the car-room doors is opened/closed is supported raisably/lowerably and swingably at lower ends of car-room doors (3L, 3R), and the gaps between the lower ends of the car-room doors and the threshold-side seal member (20) are closed by gap closing means. Because of the structure above, the threshold-side seal member (20) is kept in close contact with the threshold (11) even when the car-room doors are moved vertically with respect to the threshold (11) as the car-room doors are opened and closed, and the gaps between the lower ends of the car-room doors and the threshold-side seal member (20) are closed by the gap closing means. Thus, the gap between the lower ends of the car-room doors and the threshold are closed reliably, so that silence and airtightness in the car room are maintained.
